Samuel misses Mummy...

Photo taken early morning on 12/01/07.

Samuel has been crying on the night when mummy is in hospital, after deliver lil' Jesse on 11/01/07. He refuses to sleep and cry the whole night until about 6am the next morning.

Daddy tries to coax him but he keeps crying. Daddy has no choice but try to on Barney for him. He falls asleep within minutes on the rocking chair. Does he prefers Barney than Mummy?

Jesse Dancing

Jesse started dancing at 13months. Whenever she listens to music or songs, she will start to dance.

Do check out the video clip....

Our Maids - Part II

After our 1st maid left, we flew in mum in law to look after Samuel. With her around, we are more relieved. We can be very sure that she will do her best to look after Samuel and us. At the meantime, we have to look for another maid. Fillipino or Indon? Or should we go for childcare or nanny? We have surveyed a few childcare centre but hmm... not what we wanted, and it is not easy to find a nanny here.

My fillipino massuer introduced her sister after she learned that I am looking for a maid, although she has no experience in working as a domestic helper. After some thoughts, we decided to take her because :

1. She's introduced by someone we know - not so worried if she runs away when we are not at home
2. She has a daughter and was taking care of her nephew - capable of handling children
3. She is not working in her home country - full time housewife and mum, hence can look after the house well
4. Shes a graduate with a Hotel Management degree - would be able to speak proper English

With all the reasons, we thought she should be able to do a good job. We were very wrong!! Shes the worst maid we ever had. When she arrived, she stays with her sister. The following morning, her brother and sister sent her to our house. In the afternoon, she requested to take a nap. We allowed her to do so and told her that next time if she needs to take nap, she can do so when Samuel is sleeping. In the evening, after she finishes her work, she sits there and watch tv with us on the rocking chair. Are we being too nice? The following morning, she can't wake up!! At that time, we close one eye as we thought she has not recovered from her travelling.

We have not learnt our lesson with the 1st maid. We still treated her very good. We give her Sundays off. Saturdays halfday off upon request, stay overnight at her sister's house. When shes off on Sunday, as early as 6am she's gone and will only be back at 8pm. We told her that she should be back before 7pm. After several reminders, she still comes back late. There is one occassion we keep telling her she needs to come back by 7pm but did not turn up till 8pm!! We have not gave her our house keys, so she needs to come back before we go out. At 715pm her sister sms me and said they are going out for dinner and will be back late. We waited for her to come back and after 7pm only her sister sms and said she will be back late. I will never forget this day because it was our 3rd year anniversary - 18th September.

When shes back on Sunday, she will not do anything eventhough there are many things waiting for her - laundry, kitchen utencils to be washed. When I asked her why she did not clear the things before she goes to sleep, she told me its her off day!

Despite the lousy housework and cooking, we still give her chance. Every morning when Alvin goes to work and Samuel has to be left alone with her, he cried pitifully. There was nothing much we could do as my mum in law has gone back to look after father in law.

After 1.5months, we went to China for about 1week for holiday. We allowed her to stay with her sister or brother while we were away but she needs to come back to clean the house before we come back from holiday. So we gave her the house key. After we came back, that Sunday she was back early, at 5pm, for a reason. Her sister and brother were there with her. Her sister told me that she doesn't want to work and wanted to leave immediately!!! I asked for a reason and her sister just said its personal. She dare not say a single word. We kept asking her for reason and she just kept quiet. We were left with no choice but to let her off. Thank God, we have not processed her documents as my maid yet, as I told her I will only do the proper documentations after I find her capable of handling the work. So, I do not need to send her back. Her sister asked me to call her when I am ready to pay her sister the salary. Duh.... left without notice and dare to ask for salary?!

So, what do we suspect this time? I think she found a job when we were on holiday. Few months later, my friend told me she saw her working together with her sister as a massuer.

Once again, we are left with no maid..........

Jesse's Handprint

We did this on Jesse's 1st Birthday. It is very simple and easily done. This is mummy's favourite piece of art. Daddy feels that it is abit scary coz it looks too real, hehehe.....

Planning to get another one for Samuel, hope it is not too late.

Sound Phobia?

Samuel was an easy baby but not an easy toddler. When he was a baby, he seldoms cry. But when he was 1+ he cries alot. He cries when :

1. See people talking/ laughing
2. Someone try to talk to him
3. Daddy talking on the phone
4. Game show / concert on tv - unless it was on mute

We suspected that he is afraid of sound. Only certain sound or voice. He is ok when children scream or laugh but not adult. He has been like this until 3yrs 4 mths. We were surprised that he did not cry in school. Even his 1st day of school. He started attending school when he was 2.

He started crying in school when he see someone speaks in the microphone. His class teacher was very concern and asked if he has any phobia on "amoh" because she noticed everytime when there's a speaker (and usually its amoh) came over for a talk, he will cry.

Because of his unusual behaviour, he misses alot. He would love to play with the children but he's too afraid to join them. We sent him to music class and sat there with him and yet he cries. Only after the class is over he started singing. He cries in church every time and we have to drag him out.

Now he is like most children. He no longer cries when he sees people talking/ laughing. Everyone is happy for us and they know how stressful we were before. But now we really thank God that he has passed through the phase.

Jesse @ 14months

Woh.... she is now 14 months. It seems like yesterday I hold her in my arm (yes with one arm) and now shes walking!!! When daddy posted her first photo it was when she was just a newborn baby. That also shows that we are getting older.....

Jesse has been attending Kindermusic since month 5. At that time, she still can't sit and now shes walking. By attending Kindermusic, it allow us to bond with her more.

She just turn 14 months a couple of days ago. She walks very well and has been trying to jump a month ago. She loves to dance.

With Jesse around, it is a drastic change for both of us.
1. We have to rely more on the maid
2. More sleepless nights
3. Not much personal time
4. Extra financial burden

Our Maids - Part I

It has never been easy for us since we have no relatives/ other family members who stay with us or stay in the same country with us. We have to rely on the maid alot to look after Samuel and Jesse. Our new maid, being the 4th full time maid for the past 3.5 years, has just joined us for the past 2 weeks.

Our very 1st maid is a Fillipino. Alvin thinks she is the most capable among all. She has done a very good job in looking after the house and Samuel. She does most all the work- cleaning the house, car, laundry, cooking... She was with us since Samuel was less than 3 months. She wanted to leave us right after we celebrated Samuel's 1st Birthday. Reason being, she found out her husband in Phillipines has another woman. I told her that we can only let her go after we got a replacement. She was crying and trying to threaten us. She said that she can't work properly and can't look after Samuel as shes very emotional. At that moment, she really looks like a crazy woman. Alvin lost confident in her and we decided to sent her back the next day.

We were very disapointed with her. We were nice to her. She gets every Sunday off. Sometimes shes off on Saturday evening and stays over night in her friend's house. We brings her out most of our outings. She has the freedom to go in and out of the house when we go for holidays. She is off to bed before 9pm. She only serves 2 adults and 1 baby. She only look after Samuel from 8am to 4pm. Usually, I will rush home from work at 330pm to look after him. We allowed her to on the air cond when she goes to bed. Yes, the maid's room has an air conditioner! We have treated her as part of our family but she doesn't know how to appreciate it.

A month later, our neigbhour's driver saw her in town. According to him, she has divorced her husband and she came back to look for job. None of my friends believe that her husband has another woman. All of them think that she is lying. I never have doubt in her when she first told me about it. But when I think about it again, maybe I was wrong. What do you think?

After we decided to send her back, we have to act immediately. .............to be continued

Alicia Blogging on behalf

Since Alvin is not free to blog, I will now take over the role of blogging. I should have more time than him. Well, it is not that I have more time than him since everyone has 24hours a day. Maybe is because he is doing alot for the family - send and pick Samuel from school, Art class and music class, cook lunch and dinner for family, looking after the children at night, bathing the children, etc....

Not only he has been a daddy to the children, he has also taken the role of a mummy!! Oh gosh, so what have i been doing all these while?? I can truely say that I am very blessed with a good husband. He has been taking good care of me and the children.

Since most of the time he is doing what I am suppose to do, I have my time to do the things I wanted to do. One of the things that both of us want is to blog about the family. We would like to remember the things that has happened to our lives before we forget.

I'm Back !!!!

It has been ages since I blog. I will start bloging again.... either me or my wife.... We would like to pen down our 2 lovely children developments and happenings. Hope it is not too late.

When I first started bloging, my princess Jesse was still a newborn baby. She is now a walker. Walking here and there. Will try and jot down her developments step by step in the next post. My son, Samuel has change alot for the past 1year. His changes are drastic, but for the better. Will definately blog about it later too. Well, this blog is all about them!!
